This post is Day 18 of the 2012 edition of the 31 Days to Reset Your Life Challenge. Learn more and sign up here.
The Challenge is already more than halfway over and hopefully you have begun to see the value in focusing on your own happiness and well-being. Part of that focus should also be a dedication to your own self-care. When was the last time you sat down and thought about your own physical and mental health? For most of us, the answer is probably “never.” That’s why today, you’re going to develop a self-care plan.
Estimated Time to Complete: 60 minutes
Get out your Reset notebook and start a page labeled ”My Self-Care Plan.” You may also wish to use the worksheet found in the Reset Workbook. Your self-care plan will be your guide for the next week of getting back in tune with your inner and outer self. It should help you become more mindful about your thoughts, as well as what you put into your body. Your plan for the next week might include some or all of the following, depending on your goals for your own life:
- Wake up earlier
- Eat breakfast every day
- Meditate for 20 minutes a day
- Go for a daily morning walk
- Drink 64 oz. of water a day
- Exercise for 15- 30 minutes a day
- Run 1-5 miles a day
- Try yoga or get back into it
- Keep a daily food journal
- Go meatless for a week
- Cut out soda and/or junk food for a week
- Stop eating out for a week
- Find a good therapist
- Make an overdue doctor’s appointment
Take Action and Reflect: Share your self-care plan with us in the comments! How did you feel as you were creating it? If you blogged about today’s assignment, please post the link in the comments so we can read it!

Loving the Self-Care Plan. I’m about to print it out and hang it on my closet door!!
It definitely served as a reminder of taking care of myself. When I’m so bogged down with work and family commitments, I often forget to take care of Me. Here are some of my ideas:
* Wake up earlier (and stop slapping the snooze button for an hour!!!)
* Go for a run (at least 3 x a week)
* Drink 52+ oz. of water
* Take a short 10 minute break at work to exercise my legs
* Drink a glass of wine!
* Go to bed early
* Visit my friends at the coffee shop (they always make me happy)
* Take the train to work
* Read 10 minutes before bed
* Take a much needed bubble bath!!!
