This is the announcement post for the 7-Day Side Hustle Challenge. Sign up by leaving a comment below!
I’ve been talking a lot about the importance of taking consistent steps toward your goal of building a business from your passion in my How to Start a Side Hustle series. What I’ve noticed, though, is that there are a lot of people commenting and sharing these posts, BUT not enough ladies taking action on the strategies. So, I think it’s time for a new challenge! I’m calling all of you who’ve been saying you “wish” you could get your business off the ground, but don’t have the “time.” I’m going to be supporting you for a whole week during my new, FREE 7-Day Side Hustle Challenge beginning on Saturday, October 1 through Friday, October 7.
Every day for a week, you’ll get exercises to help you:
- Gain clarity on what your side hustle really is
- Discover easy, low-cost ways you can market yourself right now
- Take care of important details that have been preventing you from starting your business thus far
Who is this challenge for?
Anyone who is in the beginning stages of starting a passion-based business on the side. This challenge is geared toward helping people take one significant action every day for a whole week during Saturday, October 1 through Friday, October 7.
How to sign up:
Step 1:
One of the best things about participating in a challenge is the accountability and support, so please add your name, your side hustle and website link (if you have one) in the comments below so that we can keep tabs on your progress throughout the week. Each exercise will be posted right here on the blog during the week of Saturday, October 1 through Friday, October 7.
Not sure what your side hustle is yet? Watch this training video.
Step 2:
You will also need to be subscribed to the blog so you can be notified of each of the daily assignments. This is the MOST IMPORTANT STEP, otherwise you will NOT receive any of my challenge blog posts in your inbox during the week of Saturday, October 1 through Friday, October 7. Also, please make sure you confirm your email address after you sign up or you will NOT you will get the emails sent to you!
How to participate:
As you complete each of the daily exercises, you may blog about your journey on your site or leave a comment to post your “homework” here on the blog (if some of the exercises don’t apply to you at this time, no worries). Note: If you decide to blog along, tag your posts with the tag “7daysidehustle” to make them easier to share with us.
If it’s not appropriate for you to blog about the challenge on your site, you can still participate in several other ways:
- Follow along with the daily exercises and let us know how you apply them in the comments of each of the posts here on Happy Black Woman
- Comment on the blog posts and comments written by the other challenge participants – be sure to leave your own insights, suggestions and tips on the topics covered and share with us what you’re learning
- Post your updates and learnings on Twitter using the hashtag #7daysidehustle (and follow me @happyblackwoman)
- Join the Happy Black Woman Facebook community where you can post your insights and comment within the Facebook platform
$50 Prize for the Most Hustle
P.S. Don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE TO THE BLOG HERE so you can be notified of each of the daily assignments. Again, this is the most important step, otherwise you will NOT receive any of my challenge blog posts in your inbox and you will have to come to the blog every day that week on your own.
P.P.S. Wanna network with and learn from other black women entrepreneurs in person? Join us November 11 in DC for the Side Hustle Boot Camp LIVE event!

Hello,
I hope its not too late to join….
My side hustle is Curls of Joy, LLC, a Webstore featuring natural hair products with natural ingredients. I offer Darcy’s Botanicals, Karen’s Body Beautiful, Aubrey Organics, and WonderCurl, as well as unrefined Shea Butter. I hope to expand and offer more products in the future.
My venture is very new, and I would love to make it my full time job but am not sure how to create an effective expansion plan. Free resources such as core and SBA have not been helpful, and I cant afford a paid consultant. I don’t want to apply for a large business loan until I have a solid pla in place. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. In the meantime I hope to learn from this challenge and help spread the word about Curls of Joy!
Thank you for your time.

Courtney consider herself to be a passionate and giving person who recently walked away from being a full-time Clothing retailer to start up and devote the remaining of her life to Project Saving Our Sisters because she was so fed up of the mistreatment and disadvantages that MANY women endure from the system and the world. Courtney had experienced a lot of hardship and discrimination in her pursue of her career which led her to the idea for Project S.O.S. She is so passionate about Project Saving Our Sister that she is sacrificing everything to see this Project flourish devoting every dollar and eating Ramen noodles everyday to save money. If you surveyed 100 of Courtney’s associates, family and friends asking them what keywords would best describe Courtney the response would be Tenacity, Passionate, Driven, Selfless, Focus and Stubborn. In her free time she perform spoken word poetry, design clothing, write on her blogs NewProjectSoS.blogspot.com/ GetPinkMoney.blogspot.com and research statics on the internet.

Running 3 hustles at a time..(I’m press for time this is my full time hustle now not really a side hustle)
Running an online fundraiser for Project S.O.S. =Saving Our Sisters
Click Here http://goo.gl/WIELX to visit our fundraiser website
There are two products I am selling (Home/Personal Safety products and Breast Cancer Merchandise to support the cause)
Safety Products ~The products that will be sold are the top selling items in the industry so when people purchase these items they are getting hours worth of industry research, peace of mind knowing they have the best product and that these products will assist them in taking the steps to help protect themselves in this crazy world.
Pink Ribbon Products~ the products that will be sold will be rare collectible items that will raise money for a worthy cause and have something to keep as a reminder of their support of the cause.Visit Our store…..
The market I am selling to is the female market between the ages 25 and up that live in large cities where crimes against women and cancer are at a very high rate also in the same area where stats show that black women in the urban areas are twice more likely to get breast cancer then women of other races and locations.
The benefits of these products are more of a necessary purchase then a just a leisure item. Both are geared towards improving the lives of so many women across the U.S which we ALL know at LEAST one person that could benefit from these products.

I hope it’s not too late to join. My side hustle is not clearly defined, but I know that it has something to do with teaching. I love teaching and watching people grow from knowledge and empowerment. Eventually, I would like to have an after-school program or something like that. Like I said, it’s undefined. I’m looking forward to this challenge.
Hello Everyone. For this side hustle challenge, I will list one of many of my interests, cultural competency in professional counseling, and diversity appreciation. I am about to begin my practicum as a professional counselor/therapist. My courses emphasized cultural competency tremendously and there is such a need for it in my field, with understanding that the disciplines are ethnocentric and eurocentric, most therapists are European/white, and almost 90% of the patients are people of color. In all of my classes, I was, quite frankly, phenomenal in my discourse, understanding in so many ways about culture, race, and diversity. I believe I can do well consulting, speaking, professional writing, and conducting workshops and seminars with in my field. I want to see how I can start.

OK we gotta work on that website, ma’am! Glad you’re joining us
Hi Rosetta! I just finished watching your sweet spot training video and am still working at discovering what my ultimate sweet spot is! I’ve taken a great love for and hidden talent in photography, yet my dreams have been in opening a restaurant and creating an afterschool arts program until I *really* picked up a camera to capture the things I found while wandering.
So for side hustles, I imagine sharing and profiting from my photography and possibly a “small” catering practice until I’m financially ready for a brick and mortar space!
I currently work in education as a curriculum coordinator and I’ve been pushing to launch a more in-depth studio arts program in our sites…
I look forward to how this challenge can help me focus my energies and aid in my launching a business that’s ultimately aligned with my passion!
Great Luck everyone…

I’d love to be a part of this challenge, can’t wait to begin!
My side hustle is consulting and motivational speaking.

Hey Adrianne! Happy to have you joining us. It’s so cool to get to see another side of you here
Hi!
My side hustle to really get my blog that is aimed at geeks targeted at women and women of color especially more attention and presence online. I love playing video games, sci-fi movies and show. I have met other women like me from pod-casts and wanted to share that love with others. If my blog could also earn a profit aside from garnering a solid base, I would be thrilled. If I didn’t earn any money at all but still had the blog running after a year, I would also be very happy. I have already scored press passes to an upcoming convention because of my writing so I like to see how far and large my blog can grow!
This is perfect now that my new blog is set to debut on Oct 1. No need to enter me in for the cash prize, I’ll be attending the Side Hustle Boot Camp in Nov. This is a great kickstarter for the month.
Also laying the work for my book that I am planning out.
Side Hustle: Profiting from my fashion and lifestyle blog

Remember that you must tell us your side hustle in order to officially sign up for the challenge!
Perfect timing. I’m moving to Salvador, Brazil in November to start a language/culture exchangw with my cousin. I think your challenge will help iron out details that we’re missing.
