Event Recap: HBW 2012 Summer Happy Hour in DC

Print Friendly

Last night was our FOURTH Happy Black Woman Happy Hour in DC! We had about 35 ladies come out to Masa 14 for our summer gathering. Their rooftop bar was a fantastic space to connect over tasty Asian-Mexican small plates and vodka-spiked strawberry lemonade. (Shoutout to my girl @vivrant_thang for the bar recommendation!) This happy hour was extra awesome as my mom was able to join us again AND it was my last night in the U.S. before my month-long trip to Europe!

Me and my mama! Check out her fitness blog at: livinthefitlife.com

We enjoyed some tasty (and cheap!) food and drink specials, like mojitos and shrimp sushi rolls. Everything was just $4 before 7:00pm!

One of the lovely sisters I met was Aleea Slappy (pictured left in hat), owner of A Happy Slappy Greeting
Cards (ahappyslappygreeting.com). She came down all the way from Philly to join us!

We had a good mix of women who already knew each other and some who were just meeting for the first time. What’s so great about our community is that everyone can find something to connect around. The ladies who came out last night had so many interests in common: blogging, business, music, travel – and yes, natural hair!

Pictured middle is my girl @elledub_1920, who just landed a new gig managing social media at NAACP!
So happy for her.

There were so many beautiful happy black women in the house, including lots of entrepreneurs and talented ladies pursuing their dream careers.

It was so great to meet Courtney Davis, author of the children’s book, “A is for Anacostia” (pictured middle)

As usual, I had an amazing time meeting so many positive, supportive women who are committed to living their ideal lives. What I love most is the energy we share when we connect around our interests, goals and dreams. There’s such a natural affinity we have with each other when we bring our best selves into the room.

THANK YOU to everyone who came out last night for our fourth HBW happy hour in DC!

If you couldn’t join us this time around, please stay tuned for future events! I am tentatively planning an ATLANTA HBW Happy Hour for the fall (first week in November), so if you would be willing to help out with the planning for that, PLEASE let me know by emailing me at rosetta @ rosettathurman.com!
