How to Get Paid to Do What You Love (Video)

Print Friendly

I thought it was high time I test out this fancy iPhone video function, so here we go! In the video below, I answer a question that ladies ask me all the time, “how can I get paid to do what I love?” I’ve been supporting myself from my passions of writing, speaking, training and coaching for the past two years, so I wanted to share an important lesson that I’ve had to learn along the way.

In the video below, I talk about the link between having a passion for something and what it takes to get paid for it. If you’re in the process of starting a side hustle, this might help you move forward in your journey. (If you can’t see the video, click here and let me know what you think.)

Leave a comment below to tell me how you can apply this lesson to your own entrepreneurial aspirations. What’s something you can test out in the next 30 days?

By the way, if you found this video useful, please share it on Twitter or Facebook! Thank you for reading and watching :)

P.S. I’m 100% #teamiphone at this point. I love this thing. It does everything except cook dinner!

  1. Hi Rosetta! I was browsing the internet in search of inspirational guidance and I believe I came across your blog through another inspirational blog. I am so glad that I have found a site that empowers not just women but everyone. As a single parent I have been struggling to find my true purpose in life. I know that my passions are inspiring people through my own poetry http://www.riarobinson.wordpress.com, helping people whether through volunteering, donating, or trying to encourage the youth in my community. In addition I have a passion for baking, doing yard work, and fixing computer issues. Out of all of these things I decided to choose baking but I also want to continue to write poetry. My problem is I don’t know how to do both. Reading your blog has really opened my eyes. I am in the process of doing your 31 day reset challenge and so far I have learned a lot about myself. Thanks so much for starting this blog and I can’t wait to read more.

    • So glad you’re doing the 31 Day Reset! It sounds like you have a good sense of what you love to do, which is a great starting point. Is your goal to turn the baking into a business?

  2. Well, last year I tested out my love for writing by trying to offer freelance writing that didn’t go anywhere (almost similar to you lol). But I am finally finding a culmination of my interests coming together in a very marketable way by pursuing my love of techy things and becoming a technical virtual assistant. It just feels right that I put several of my interests and abilities together and do this, so I am taking a training program now to hone my natural skills (that I had been using for years and not even paying attention to) and satisfy my interest by building a virtual assistant business. I’m really excited about it and look forward to my future with it.

  3. I am testing, but it feels like I’m spinning wheels. I stepped out on faith last year and started my own career development company (www.AListCandidates.org). It’s the hardest thing to get off the ground. How did you get your service before your target audience?

  4. This makes me think of this woman who was sharing her story about turning her dance hobby into something that made money (as an instructor). It wasn’t enough for her to make a living but it was enough to cover the high costs of dancing as a hobby.
    Very practical advice.

As for me, I know that people are willing to pay for writing. I’m just not sure I want to sell it. That’s what I’ve been going back and forth in my mind about. On one hand I want to be able to generate income outside of cubicle nation and writing can make this possible BUT I enjoy my writing as a release – I like that it’s not tainted by the stresses of money.

  6. This is really so true! I am trying to work on a side hustle after doing the 31 Day Reset (still haven’t thought of one that I would be passionate about and be good at and have people pay me for – ughhh!).

You have helped me to realize that I also need to focus on what people would be willing to pay for in addition to figuring out what I love and am good at doing.

    Thanks!

  7. great video. You bring up some great points – it’s funny how we’ve all fallen for the ‘if you build it, they will come’ school of thought that is not really true. The marketing advice I’m following currently is exactly what you’ve said – offer people what THEY want, as opposed to what YOU want to offer, and to TEST. Thanks for the advice.

  8. I love this post. This is the most practical advice I have heard yet on “How to get paid to do what you love.” I have heard many people give advice on it, but this one hits the nail on the head. It also explains what I actually went through as well without even knowing. I’m finally finding which of my passions people are actually willing to pay for, and that’s an exciting place to be in. Thanks for posting, and I loved you on video! :)

    • Thanks for stopping by Alexis! What are you testing out right now & what are you finding that people are willing to pay for from you?
