This post is Day 22 of the 31 Days to Reset Your Life Challenge for 2011. Learn more and sign up for the program here.
After three weeks of dreaming and visioning and imagining and purging, it’s time you finally get down and dirty with developing an action plan for living your ideal life. Ready? Today you’re going to plan your Reset Project.
Estimated Time to Complete: 60 minutes
To complete this exercise, you will choose one specific area from your life map to make progress on within the next month. Your Reset Project will be focused on one of these seven specific areas of your life:
- Lifestyle
- Work
- Education
- Finances
- Health
- Family
- Relationships
How to Structure Your Reset Project
- Brief description of the project: What area of your life map will you work on? Be specific.
- Why the project was selected: How will this project help you get closer to your ideal life?
- Goals: What do you hope to achieve?
- Results: How will you measure success?
- Assistance needed: What will you need to get your project completed or underway? How do you plan to get it?
- Obstacles: What obstacles might you encounter and how do you plan to deal with them?
- Next steps: What do you need to do now in order to see results within the 30 days?
For maximum success, you may also consider involving your accountability partner in your Reset Projet by informing them of your plans. Another thing you might do is Write a Love Letter to Your Future Self to be sent to you 30 days from now to check in on your progress with your Reset Project.
Take Action and Reflect: When you’re done, please share your Reset Project description with us in the comments! Would also be great to hear how you felt as you completed this exercise. Did it excite you? Make you nervous? If you blogged about today’s assignment, please post the link in the comments so we can read it!

Hey, just checking in to say that Project Get Paid finally came to fruition over the past few weeks! Third AND fourth jobs are lined up and running (that’s the life I chose when I decided to follow my passion for writing), I’m finally getting back to my feet financially, and I COULD move out if I chose…but your posts about your lifestyle experiments have really got me thinking, “Do I NEED to do that right now? Couldn’t I spend that rent money on an awesome experience, or even that HOUSE from my ideal life narrative?”
Thanks again, Rosetta; this challenge KEEPS changing my life.
My reset project

My reset project will be focused on work and finding a better work-life balance. I am currently working one full-time job which I do not enjoy and I work part-time at a job that I enjoy more. My first step would be to balance out my schedule between the two to allow me to focus more on the job I do want and work on reducing the hours or eliminating the other job I don’t want. This is my first step and I have already worked out a possible schedule and submitted the request to my workplace.
I am also working on writing a book- very slow progress on this because of my hectic schedule but I want to devote more time to that.
I eventually want to work for myself but I cannot figure out what that business would be. I need to do more exploration of possible business opportunities and take action. I do not want to work for someone else forever!
I have two reset projects, but decided to focus on this one this month because it’s more pressing and has to be prioritized before any “extracurricular” activities.
Project GET PAID
Description: get a second job and become financially independent again
Why I selected this: It will help me meet my short-term financial goal of being economically independent and also help me save money for my long-term travel and educational goals
Goals: get a third job that pays enough money to move into my own place again without dipping into my savings; move into a furnished room by February 1 or set a later date to do so
Results: clear enough money to meet my savings goal; earn enough to support myself in my own place, if I choose (not disclosing them for security purposes, but I’ve got hard numbers in mind =) )
Assistance needed: I’ll need to find and get hired for a part-time job that pays the money I need and fits in with my current jobs and obligations.
Obstacles: Difficulty scheduling (especially with current commitments). I’ll look and apply for more daytime jobs at places that are only open when I can work. That should cut down on scheduling issues – I’d prefer daytime hours – and help me focus on finding jobs that pay well and further my career goals.
Next steps: 1) Follow up on application for library job. 2) Search, apply, and/or interview for one job every day until I get hired. 3) Set a hard date for moving out (Feb 1 or later), based on long-term goals and how much money I need to save for them. 4) Look for and secure housing by move-out date.
Oops, that’s a THIRD job. typo in the first part
* Brief description of the project: The area of my life map that I will be working on is being a healthier ME, because I want to be more health conscious for my future.
* Why the project was selected: This project was selected because with the health risks that can ibe inherited from my family I can always stay a step ahead to actually be able to see my goals in action
* Goals: I hope to have a regular workout routine, drink more water, take daily vitamins, get plenty of rest, worry-less, and make healthier food choices.
* Results: I will measure my success by making checklists that will be incorporated in my daily to-do list and keep note of things I did or didn’t do towards my healthier ME plan
* Assistance needed: I have to truly make a plan and stick to it but I will need an accountability partner to keep me on track, as well as, visual reminders.
*Obstacles: The only true obstacle I may encounter is giving up on my plan or getting lazy.
*Next steps: I wrote myself a Future Letter to make sure in the next 30days I will have a remind of what I was planning on doing and reevaluate from there.
I also had two areas I could have worked on, but ultimately decided on Finances (partly because I thought it would be a more manageable project for right now). Here’s my blog: http://wp.me/p1rrQZ-3L

Project- I plan to work on the education portion of my life map.
Why- I chose the education portion of my life map because I strongly believe that once I have obtained my degree then that will set me up and put me in the position that I need to be in order to work on my career, finances of my life map and will add to the change in my lifestyle as a whole.
Goal- My goal is to achieve the degrees necessary to move forward and be successful in my life.
Result- I will measure my success by my change in attitude, my work performance and the way I look at myself in the mirror and see the self-satisfaction on my face and the look of ‘I’m doing it!!’
Assistance – I need to make the phone calls and take the steps necessary to see when I can return to school.
Obstacles – My obstacles will probably be making sure that everything financially has been taken care of in order for me to return to my classes.
Next step- All I need to do now is make the arrangements to enroll.
I kinda struggle with the reset challenge because there are two areas of my life that I must work on and to be honest that I have already started to work and so I was debating either to share that progress or to pick another area.
I decided to stick with my original “areas” and to pick one to share with you ladies. The one that I care about the most right now is EDUCATION. The second one was WORK.
For the past 2 weeks, actually it all started with the beginning of the 31 day reset challenge, I have decided that it was time for me to get that graduate degree. It will definitely help me get closer to my ideal life since it will equip me with valuable knowledge for the Nonprofit and Development world.
I hope to get in the Master program I want (International Affairs) in August 2012. Success will be measured by whether or not I get acceptance with the Financial Aid I need.
To get my project completed, I will have to send all materials by January 31st. Obstacles I might encounter will be the lack of funding for my degree.
Right now, I need to focus and finish writing my statement of purpose and get back in touch with my college professors for academic references.

Brief description of the project: I will be focusing on my side hustle and my career.
Why the project was selected: This project will bring me closer to living my purpose on a deeper level (helping women and girls of color live their best and healthiest life)
Goals: 1) Have at least 2-3 workshop proposals accepted at local and national conferences, 2) increase the number of contacts on my mailing list, 3) Obtain 2-3 paid writing/consulting jobs, 4) create informative and entertaining blog posts, 5) tweak my website for better intuitiveness and usability .
Results: How will you measure success?- 1) higher blog post comment percentage, 2) unsolicited requests for my services, 3) positive remarks on my work, 4) land full-time employment that’s more in alignment with my passion.
Assistance needed: Set monthly goals, fully develop my niches, create a free product on my site that highlights a part of my work that speaks to my audience, continue to work with my mastermind group.
Obstacles: My current full-time job (need to make time to focus on my business while still remaining present at my job.
Next steps: 1) Write informative and entertaining blog posts (utilizing Chris Garret’s 102 Headline-Writing Formula). 2) Tweak website to make it more user-friend;y (widgets, etc) and measure traffic (Google Analytics, etc.), 3) develop more effortlessness into my life (develop a more positive attitude that I can manifest my goals)

I will be focusing on a specific area of my health and being consistent in my yoga practice. I chose this project because I’ve always loved the practice and results of yoga but have not fully solidified my commitment to marinating my practice. My goal is to practice yoga 3-4 times per week between 30min to 1 hour. Success will be measured by my ability to maintain this routine. An increase in my flexibility and endurance and my ability to center myself, deepen my meditation and an increase in my ability to make healthy choices for myself. The assistance I’ll need may come from learning to reform or enhance my technique by attending a monthly drop in class or reviewing my yoga videos and books. The challenge I will face is developing a consistent time/day schedule for practice (This has always been my downfall in the past when I start to shift days and times for yoga I slowly start to fall out of practice.
hey i am a day late… think the first day of school wore me out cuz i didn’t even check in here at all yesterday…anyways i am going to be concentrating on finances and growing my wealth
