My time on Black Singles has been interesting, to say the least. For one, I receive more messages on that site compared to all the other online dating sites combined. My theory is that since it’s a site that is laser-focused on single black folks, the men are obviously on the site looking for a black woman, versus other sites that have all races in the dating pool. I’ll do a full review of the site soon, but for now one of the things that I’ve noticed is the willingness of men to approach you on there.
But like any other site, the response from men is all over the place, with some starting interesting conversation or sending witty one liners and some sticking to the tried-and-failed “hey how r u?” approach. And then there are people who confuse the purpose of a dating site with a place for networking or promoting their business. Or even job hunting, like this brother from Maryland who wrote me with this:
I enjoyed reading your profile. So you are a business owner? I am currently trying to get back into my career field (information technology) while doing so industrial work as a temp. Can you offer any direction or contacts that may be able to assist with placement, etc… I am open to any and all direction.
Um, yeah. I really didn’t know what to say to this, so I just didn’t say anything. I feel for the brother, I really do. But somebody needs to tell him that that’s what Monster.com is for.
