Reset Your Life Day 31: Choose a Theme for 2011

This post is Day 31 of the 31 Days to Reset Your Life ChallengeLearn more and sign up for the program here.

Yes, the rumors are true. Today is the last day of the challenge! It’s been an honor and a privilege to spend this month with all of you. Thank you for putting your goals and hopes and dreams out there for all of us to see. Thank you for sharing this experience with other women just like you. But most of all, thank you for being here with me on this blog. Your presence is what keeps me writing day after day.

Day 31: Choose a Theme for 2011

The final assignment for the challenge is to really look to the year ahead and think about what big picture theme you want to manifest most. We will do this in two parts.

Step 1:

Choose a theme word for the year ahead. What one word or phrase represents what you want to bring about in the next 12 months? (For example, my theme for 2010 was “The Year of Happy” where I made a personal commitment to myself to do everything that makes me happy and stop doing the things that don’t. And out of that theme, the Happy Black Woman blog was born!)

Step 2:

Choose a theme song for the coming year. Imagine what song you would want following you around during your daily journey to live your ideal life. It should be a song that brings about some kind of motivation or inspiration for you.

Here’s what I came up with for my theme.

  • My theme word for 2011 is ABUNDANCE. I want to manifest abundance in every area of my life this year. I want to remember that everything I want and need is available to me through the power of love for myself and others. I also want to use my gifts to help other women realize abundance in their lives in the coming year.
  • My theme song is “Closer” by Goapele. Here’s the video for the song if you’ve never seen it (if you can’t see the video below, click here). It’s one of my favorites, and one that affirms me in my journey to pursue lifelong happiness and success. Every day of 2011, I’ll be moving closer to my dreams of being fulfilled in life, love and business. And I wish the same for all of you!

When you’re done, please share your theme word and your theme song with us in the comments! Why did you choose what you chose? And feel free to go ahead and link to Youtube videos if you got ‘em :)

Note: If you blogged about today’s assignment, please post the link in the comments so we can read it!

  2. 1. Dorothy’s Theme: “Positive Presence” – to make a commitment to living in the present, seeking and attracting more positive things into my life.

    2. Dorothy’s Theme Song: “What I Be” (by Michael Franti) – This song represents my commitment to be the best “me” I can be, to glory with positive self-concept in my own uniqueness.

  3. My theme is “Year of Love”. It represents me loving myself and making decisions that reflect that love. I recently got a divorce and resigned from a job that I hated and many people thought I had gone mad. I have had to struggle a little as I find another job/source of income, but along the way I have been learning SO much about myself. So it’s only fitting that I choose “Happy” by Leona Lewis as my theme song because no matter what I have to endure, I will find my happy through loving me! Here’s a link if you want to hear it

  4. Thanks Rosetta for this program, it has been an eye opening experience.

My theme for 2011 is “Freedom”
It encompasses everything I want to accomplish this year.
This year, I will be free from debts, I will break free from my current job-which I hate but been feeling stuck for a while and also and most importantly, I will be “Free to be me”. Cutting loose the chains of expectations and just doing me.

My theme song is “I’m coming out” by Diana Ross.
Here’s a youtube link performed by Beyonce….her swagger represents how I feel for this year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0w0sjeWVieY

  5. My theme is Balance: between work and personal, friends and family, physical and emotional and the world vs self.

My theme song: Wait til they see my smile by Alicia Keys, more so for some specific lines:
when the wind is blowing in your face
sometimes in life you dont see straight
pray to him, he will show….

when your head is in a certain place
stand strong and you will grow…

cause you’re stronger and you’re beter and you’re ready for whatever…

  6. My theme for 2011 is ELEVATE!

source-the free dictionary.com>To move (something) to a higher place or position from a lower one; lift.
This represents my journey since I lost some mobility

My Theme songs are Soul II Soul ~ Get a life…as I was completing this task the lyrics…Elevate your mind free your soul…..
and India Arie ~ Get it together….the words that come from your mouth your the first to hear….

Just by listening to both help me move forward, and reduce the negative things that I say about myself. :P )

  7. I have officially finished the challenge! I’m not posting my activities for each day as we have technically finished and a new group has begun (You’ll love the experience!) My theme is from the play, “Fela!” I had a chance to see it last week. When I heard the line and chorus it stuck with me. After hearing the entire verse and chorus on the cast recording (because I had to make the memories last)I decided “Original. No Artificality.” would be my theme. This phrase represents be authentic and true to myself in all that I do this year. No stifling my opinion. No fitting into boxes that I don’t want to or didn’t create. No living the life of someone else and hating it. 2011 I will be “Original! No Artificiality!” My theme song is the same. Favorite line: “You’ve got to find your own groove.” So appropriate that this piece refers to music and self. One of my passions is music. Such a perfect reflection of where I am…

Here’s a link to a clip of the play though not the scene which inspired my theme :)

  8. My theme word is CHOICE. And my song is “I Choose” by India Arie. Every word to this song speaks to my life and how I choose to live my life from this day forward.

  9. For 2011, my theme is going to be FORWARD. I’ve spent too much time focusing on the past and dwelling on things that have already happened. 2011 will be the year when I keep my life moving onward. I want to focus on the future and things that will propel me closer to my goals. Also, since the word has a double meaning, I also want to be more forward and aggressive in my life – instead of passively letting things happen to me.

My theme song for 2011 is India.Arie “Video” – I want to love myself regardless of anything that anyone else thinks of me. True love comes from within.

  10. Happy Birthday Rosetta! I am so grateful you offered your time, skills and heartfelt comments to all of us throughout this journey. This is only the beginning!

My 2011 theme word is Rule-Breaker…no more living within the boundaries expected of me.
ETA: My 2011 Theme Song is Jill Scott’s “Golden” check it out on my blog http://www.thecurlymisfit.blogspot.com

Cheers to the Reset Crew! Have a safe night ladies…catch you on the flip side :-)

  11. My theme word for 2011 is Self-Assurance: I am going to be more confident in the value of my work, and my ideas.

My song for 2011 is “Smile” (Janelle Monae version of course!)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezRCygZoiNU

“Smile, though your heart is aching, smile,
    Even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds, in the sky you’ll get by
If you smile, through all fear and sorrow
    Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll find the sun come shining through for you”

  12. Year 2011: Doing Me

The year 2011 is going to be my year – “Imma Be” everything I want to be and more. I am going after my goals. Nothing can stop me now. Full-stream ahead. “Imma Be” on my Diddy/Sasha Fierce grind. [I am really pump up right now]

  13. My theme word for 2011 is “Self-Love”. I am going to pursue a lifestyle this year to show that I love and respect myself. My chooses in relationships, careers, wellness and recreation will all show that I love and care for myself just as I love and care for all the others.

My theme song Fantasia’s “I’m Doing Me” because I’ve spent so many years doing for others instead of doing what makes me happy!

  14. First things first have a very happy birthday!

Second this assignment is so on time. I have a friend that creates themes for her year and when we met a few years ago she started me on this practice. Last night I actually sat down and brainstormed what I wanted my theme to be and I have it down to two… “Beyond” and “Add Value.”

My song that goes with these two themes are “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBPw1a5hMLc)

My explanation for the theme and why I chose the song are on my blog: http://wp.me/pBR3E-Bq

Happy New Year ladies and thanks Rosetta for helping us end the year through this reset.

  15. My theme for 2011 is “A Joyous Occasion.” I vow to do things that make me happy and to find real joy. I refuse to continue to allow hurt people hurt me, myself included. I will travel often, eat good food, study my Word, love smarter, and ultimately spend my time, energy, money, and other resources on things that will benefit me.

My theme song for A Joyous Occasion is Ledisi’s cover of “What a Wonderful World.” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QUnM1JgdCQ) The lyrics to this song speak perfectly to what I wish 2011 to be for me. I want to see the world around me in a way as never before! I want to love, help, care, and feel like never before.

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They’re really saying I love you.

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more than I’ll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.
