#31DayReset Day 27: Take Yourself Out on a Date

This post is Day 27 of the 31 Days to Reset Your Life Challenge for 2011. Learn more and sign up for the program here.

Yesterday, you listed 100 things that make you happy. Today, you’re going to look back at that list and put together a set of activities to do today, all by yourself. That’s right, you’re going to get some valuable “me time” and take yourself out on a date.

Estimated Time to Complete: Varies

Make plans with yourself to do something that makes YOU happy, regardless of what other people might think. For instance, if you love art museums or foreign films or long walks in the park listening to the birds, go out there and have fun doing it! No more waiting for someone to join you or not going to the movies or to dinner by yourself. Life is not reserved for other people, it’s here for you to live. And when you take yourself out on a date, the possibilities are endless!

Take Action and Reflect: Tell us what you plan to do on your “date” in the comments! Is this something you do or want to do regularly? If you blogged about today’s assignment, please post the link in the comments so we can read it!

  1. I took myself to the movies and finally saw “J. Edgar” before it left theaters. Then I took myself to lunch and had a window-shopping spree. It was fun, especially on such a beautiful day, and it just felt good to treat myself to the things *I* like without worrying about anyone else. Self-Date Night/Day might have to become a monthly thing…

  2. On my date I enjoyed 7things from m 100 things that make me happy list and I loved spendin time with me.

Afterwork I went to a HAPPY HOUR at my favorite SUSHI place and enjoyed my rolls with extra sweet eel sauce (delsh). Then I came and layed out on my LOVELY RED COUCH anddrank some SAUVIGNON BLANC watched TOUGH LOVE ( I can’t get enough of shies on Bravo). Then I popped some POPCORN on the stove with melted butter and watched TOY STORY. It was a perfect evening.

      • I watched Skin (featuring Sophie Okonedo). It’s based on a true story of an Black African woman born to white parents in 1950s South Africa. It was a real eye opener into apartheid during that time. Amazing movie. I highly recommend it!

I also watched “Just Another Girl on the IRT”. It’s from 1992 and based on a Brooklyn high school junior who has dreams of being a doctor, and is derailed when she becomes pregnant. My niche is in sexual and reproductive health, and it’s interesting to see that things that took place in this film are things still being done today (stigma, misinformation, racial stereotypes, etc.)

I also watched Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing as well as Love Jones (I’m late on these two, lol)

        • I was also one of the late ones to Do The Right Thing – finally watched it last year. After that, many other subsequent movies started to make much more sense LOL. I love movies from the 90s, so may check out “Just Another Girl on the IRT.”

  3. For my date, I went to the Holocaust museum, I’v been meaning to check out more of the cultural activities in this area AND start doing things alone [that was one of the things i mentioned on one of the earlier days] this gave me an opportunity to do both. It weas nice just being able to ge up and go without having to wait on someone and it wasn’t nearly as awkward as i imagined it would be. I’m thinking about going to the movies later today or out to eat if the weather lets up and I’m going to make a point to do more activities on my own instead of waiting to find someone to go with.

    • Great to hear about your date, Channing! For museums, I think sometimes it’s actually better to go alone, that way you can fully experience your true emotions from seeing the beauty and pain found there. I feel the same way about certain movies, but then again, I tend to watch intense dramas.

      • Thanks, I think you’re right, although I do enjoy going with others so you can talk and comment I think at the very least you should go back by yourself. Movies though, I’ve never been one to want to go solo, I’m a comeny/action girl myself so those usually are more enjoyable with others. But the next time a movie comes out that I want to see and i know no one else does, I’m gonna go.
