The Annual Review/Preview: An Opportunity for Intentional Reflection

This is the announcement post for the Annual Review/Preview we are doing here on the blog to help us reflect on 2011 and plan for an amazing 2012. You are invited to join us to journal and/or blog your reflections! You can also post your thoughts on Twitter using the hashtag #reviewpreview.

This week, I’m in major reflection and planning mode. The new year will be here in a few days, so it’s the perfect time to reflect on 2011 as well as set intentions for what I want in 2012. Perhaps you’d like to join me?

We’ll call this our annual review/preview.

One of my previous bosses used to have all the staff submit a one-page review/preview on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis. The idea was to “review” the previous week, month, or quarter by looking at your accomplishments and lessons learned during that time period. The review highlights what worked and what didn’t – what went well and what you could have done better. The “preview” part came afterwards and it’s where you outlined your plans for the next week, month or quarter. The preview was an opportunity to outline a gameplan for future progress or set new goals for a specific time period.

Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing a few posts with the guiding questions I’ll be using for myself that you can utilize for your own review/preview.

What you’ll need for your own annual review/preview:

  • A notebook
  • A pen
  • A block of quiet time over the next few days

Will you be joining me to review 2011 and preview 2012? Let me know in the comments!

You may also wish to blog your reflections and intentions to create accountability for yourself in the new year. If you do, please feel free to post the links here.

P.S. Your annual review/preview will be an especially valuable tool if you previously completed the 31 Days to Reset Your Life Challenge or plan to do so for our LIVE run during January 2012.

  15. Count me in!!

  16. You know, this sounds like a good idea to me! I actually am doing the Reset this month; coincidentally, this time isn’t really causing that much of an overhaul, because of the amount of work I did through last year’s Reset. This year has been really great, which I wouldn’t have realized if I hadn’t sat down and started to reflect on potential changes I’d like to make; that said, I wonder if perhaps doing this exercise might help me clarify the accomplishments I’ve made this year even more, so I’ll be in that much of a better position to strategize for next year. Let’s do it! :o )

  17. I’ll be joining in for both! So excited! Yay!!!!
