Who controls your life?
Pose this question to any person over the age of 21 and the answer will likely be: “Me! Of course. Silly girl.”
On the surface, that answer makes perfect sense. If you are considered an adult by society, you technically have the right to make your own decisions and therefore control your own life.
But when it comes time to actually make those specific decisions that YOU are supposed to control…well, that’s often an entirely different story. As an adult, you can do whatever your heart desires. Provided you don’t break the law and go to jail, you have unlimited freedom to move about the world in your own way.
Why, then, is it so difficult to live the life of your dreams?
For one thing, we waste a lot of time using other people as an excuse for why we can’t do what we want to do.
- I can’t take off work for a week because MY BOSS won’t let me.
- I can’t travel because MY KIDS are too young.
- I can’t save money because MY JOB doesn’t pay me enough.
- I can’t go natural because MEN will no longer find me attractive.
- I can’t date a man without a college degree because MY FRIENDS won’t think he’s good enough for me.
- I can’t quit my “good” job and start my own business because MY FAMILY will think I’m crazy.
Think about it.
Be honest about the excuses you give for NOT pursuing certain goals. You may be putting unnecessary limitations on yourself by allowing other people to hold you back from living your version of happy.
Who really controls your life? Your boss, your kids, your job, your family, your friends, men, or…you?

How many times have I been thinking those very thoughts? Many…too many to count. But I have learned that waiting for approval that is not coming is futile effort. That is why I am focusing on me and my life for a change….and saying ” I control my life.”
Rosetta…GET – OUT – OF – MY – HEAD! On sooo many levels!
Right before I came to HBW (to check on how the travel is going, of course!), I was just thinking about how I’d like to work out and exactly how I want my results to look while at the same time…making excuses about how I need a personal trainer, I don’t have time, I need a sitter for my kids.
I was also thinking this morning of so many businesses I want to create, but just haven’t because it doesn’t seem like the conventional or normal thing to do.
Your post is right on time and I know it was a message for me (if no one else) that life is worth living exactly how you’d like! Thank you from the other side of the world!

Great post. You’ve definitely got me thinking. I would have immediately answered, “I’m running my own life, DUHHHHH.” Apparently I’m not. :-/
Back to the drawing board and working on the plan to being in charge of my life. Out of the 6 excuses listed above, I’m sure I’ve used at least 3 of them to justify why I wasn’t or able to do something.
I’m pressing “reset” and switching the control of my life and living the life of my dreams back into my hands.
Rosetta, I wanted to let you know I am very grateful for this blog. Each day I read your post gives me the courage to say, “Yes, I can do this.” I will admit I am scared but my motto is going to be– Be Scared and Do it ANYWAY.
Love your motto, Tracy! I need to borrow it! And, I agree – love this site!

Thanks for reading, Tracy! I’m so glad that the blog is resonating with you. I love your motto
That should be MY motto actually for this Europe trip I am on. Sure, I’m scared…but even more excited about all the new experiences I’m having here!
