It’s December 26 and I’m enjoying my day-after-Christmas breakfast of sweet potato pie and a mug of vanilla almond tea.
I had a good time with family yesterday cooking, eating and exchanging gifts. Afterwards, we all went out to the movies to see Jumanji starring Kevin Hart and the Rock. It was a great remake of one of my favorite childhood films!
After everyone left last night, I went into my office and closed the door.
I lit a candle and got out my journal.
I sat down in my big purple chair and began to reflect.
A few weeks ago, I set intentions for how I wanted this holiday weekend to go.
I wanted to spend quality time with the people I love, laugh and have fun, eat yummy food and make new memories.
But I was also nervous about something going “wrong.”
Yet despite my worries – and to be honest, my attempts to control everything – we had a wonderful weekend together.
I got my Christmas wish – to spend the holiday with both my mom and sister for the first time in over 4 years.
This time last year, neither of us were even on speaking terms with my mom. Since then, we’ve been able to communicate better about our feelings and we even had a family therapy session earlier this year. We still have work to do, but the shift began as soon as we all said YES to the journey.
No matter what area of your life you desire to transform, you must first say YES to the possibility.
You don’t need to know the “how” or have it all figured out right away.
It works better (and faster) when you just trust God to show you the next step and then have enough faith to TAKE IT.
What I’ve learned is that when I keep my mind and my heart open to what’s possible, I experience so much more happiness, success and freedom.
And guess what?
It’s not too late to set your intentions for how you want to END the year.
Be open to unexpected blessings.
2017 is not over yet.
This year can still blow your mind, if you let it.
Take a deep breath and repeat after me:
I AM READY TO RECEIVE.
