Over the past few months, I’ve been working on implementing my 2019 business plan for Happy Black Woman®, including new programs, events, etc.
On paper, everything made sense.
My business goals for this year were S.M.A.R.T.
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
I kept procrastinating and my progress remained stagnant. I was stuck in a rut, big time!
After months of moving at the pace of a turtle, I finally figured out why I was experiencing so much resistance.
Although my goals “made sense,” they weren’t fully ALIGNED with who I really am and what I really want to do.
One of the biggest reasons why we procrastinate is because we don’t actually WANT to do the thing we’re so blatantly avoiding.
When you’re out of alignment, it’s difficult to take action on your to-do list.
In those moments, there are several things you can do to help you make the necessary mindset shifts so that you can get unstuck and get back to YOU.
1. Be Honest with Yourself
Transformation always begins with being honest with yourself about where you’re at right now.
In my process, I first write down all the things I DON’T like about each area of my life.
Then, I journal to get clear on what I DO want. Not what I’ve been PRETENDING to want. And not what I think I SHOULD want.
For most women, it takes a lot of courage to admit what they really want.
It can bring up feelings of unworthiness. Your limiting beliefs begin to rear their ugly head. Your inner critic starts asking, “who do you think you are?”
But the truth is that getting clarity on your true desires is the best way to come back to yourself and take action with authenticity and alignment.
2. Drop the Guilt
It’s so easy to beat yourself up when you’re not making progress as quickly as you want.
Speaking from experience being an A++ high-achiever my whole life, I notice my “inner mean girl” scolding me for getting off track – AGAIN. She says things like:
“After all these years, shouldn’t you know what you want? You really should have it all “together” by now!”
But wallowing in guilt and shame never helped anyone move forward, so it’s important to direct your mind to more productive thoughts – like, “what’s my best next step?” or “what can I do today that will move me forward?”
We’re all perfectly imperfect women striving to get better every day. There’s no need to make yourself wrong simply because you’re human!
3. Do the Inner Work
Over the years, I’ve learned how to coach myself through my own limiting beliefs and I’ve definitely had to do that a lot recently. So, I decided to revisit my tried and true “Happy Black Woman” personal development tools that have served me well over the years.
And a beautiful journey started to unfold.
I began journaling every morning AND evening to explore my desires.
I rediscovered parts of myself that had been put on the back burner.
I stopped trying to force myself into action and started following the path to what really lights me up instead.
And what I ended up with was a deeper understanding of myself and what I was feeling called to do in my life and business NOW.
That’s why I was inspired to create a brand new personal transformation program that represents the inner work that’s been necessary for my growth and evolution this year.
It’s called “Get Back to You” and if you’ve been stuck in a rut lately, then this program was designed just for you. It’s a LIVE 21-day challenge with daily assignments, tools and support that will help you rediscover yourself and get back to the woman you were meant to be.
