My Journey of Becoming a Successful Coach
In case we haven’t met yet, I’m Rosetta Thurman, a life and business coach for Black women entrepreneurs. I’m the Founder of Happy Black Woman®, a global lifestyle brand and coaching company that empowers Black women to transform their lives through personal development and entrepreneurship.
I’m also the host of The Happy Black Woman® Podcast and the author of Launch Your Business: The 5 Step Solution to Do What You Love, Quit Your Job and Have the Freedom to Travel and Live Life on Your Own Terms.
At this point in my career, I’m grateful that I get to help women just like you create the lives and businesses of their dreams!
But this wasn’t always my reality.
When I started my first business back in 2008 as a nonprofit consultant, speaker and coach, I had no idea what I was doing.
I had to learn how to create a website. I had to learn how to market myself online. I had to learn how to sell my services. I had to learn how to manage my time (since I was still working a full-time job!).
Most of all, I had to learn how to change my mindset, because I was taught that the only way to make money was to work for someone else. It wasn’t easy…but 2 years later, I was able to replace my income and QUIT my job!
Soon after, I began traveling the world to visit places I had only seen in magazines, while I ran my business from the road.
I got rid of all my stuff, ended my apartment lease and became a “digital nomad,” traveling the world with just a suitcase and a laptop, living and working from my dream destinations of Hawaii, Greece, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Bali and more!
Fast forward to today and I’ve gone from $0 to a multiple 6-figure women’s empowerment coaching business, traveling all over the world, publishing 2 books, hosting a podcast with over 1M downloads, hosting dozens of events and leading international retreats.
And along the way, I’ve learned what it really takes to actually build a business that makes a difference AND makes a profit.

Rosetta Thurman is a transformational life and business coach for Black women entrepreneurs. She is the creator of The Happy Black Woman® Academy, a yearlong mentorship program that helps Black women turn their expertise into successful coaching, consulting and service-based businesses.
Rosetta is the author of Launch Your Business: The 5-Step Solution to Do What You Love, Quit Your Job and Have the Freedom to Travel and Live Life on Your Own Terms. She holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management and has also taught leadership, business and marketing as an Adjunct Professor.
