What Will You Complete By the End of 2015?

I’m back in Hawaii for a while and happy to be “home.”

My Airbnb apartment has a beautiful lanai (outdoor patio) filled with colorful plants and flowers, pictured above.

I feel surrounded by life and excited to have my Sunday beach days again!

Last night after I got settled in, I walked to Tiki’s for dinner and had the best miso butterfish with brown rice.

It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, along with the pineapple cheesecake I had for dessert!

As you know, I love to eat and Hawaii is one of my top foodie destinations.

I’ve been traveling pretty much nonstop for the past year and it feels good to “settle down” for a while and soak up the sunshine, play in the sand and focus on completing a few important projects by the end of 2015.

Is It Time for You to Take a Risk?

One of the best things about long flights is that I get to binge-watch great movies.

Especially the Hollywood classics.

On my flight from Buenos Aires to Miami, I watched the original Bonnie and Clyde from back in 1967.

(Confession: I don’t watch TV, but I LOVE a good crime movie – from bank heists to mob bosses, I’m here for all the drama and the glory and the sheer entrepreneurship of it all.)

Then from Miami to Los Angeles, I watched Risky Business.

What I Learned About Self-Worth From Upgrading to Business Class

Beautiful view of silhouette of airplane.

I’m writing this from my laptop on my flight from Miami to Los Angeles.

Last night, I left Argentina on the first leg of my journey to the next stop on my travel bucket list – Indonesia!

I’ll begin my trip in Jakarta and then head to Bali from there.

At the last minute, I decided to upgrade my seat from Economy to Business Class.

I called American Airlines (my favorite airline) to walk me through the process since I had never done it before.

I’d done First Class upgrades on short flights within the U.S., but never for an international flight.

That was before I learned the art of maximizing my frequent flyer miles!

Are You Walking Your Talk as a Coach?

young african woman thinking

As we prepare for what will be an EPIC Launch Your Business LIVE 3-Day Boot Camp in Atlanta, the word “possibility” has been heavy on my mind.

Because what my team and I have been hearing a lot lately is:

I wish I could come to the event, but I can’t take off from work.

I know I should be there, but I can’t travel to Atlanta.

This is exactly what I need right now, but I can’t afford it.

It got me thinking about something one of my mentors, Valorie Burton, told us at her Coaching Training Institute many years ago.

“I Wish I Could Do That…”

LIM FB Image

Whenever I tell people that I live a location-independent lifestyle, I usually get this wistful response:

“I wish I could do that…”

This phrase comes up a lot in our Happy Black Woman community and I have to tell you…

This ONE phrase could be holding you back from a lifetime of happiness, success and freedom.

When you say “I wish I could do that,” you are reinforcing the limiting belief that you CAN’T.

And this limiting belief could also be affecting other areas of your life.

The Moment I Knew I Was Willing to Do Whatever it Takes

IMG_1289Back in 2012, I went on my dream trip to Europe.

Over the course of an entire month, I visited Greece, Italy and Spain – the top 3 countries on my “travel bucket list.”

I indulged in the incredible food, culture and sights of each country.

I saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa…

I walked through the Acropolis in Athens…

I relaxed on black sand beaches in Santorini…

I learned how to make pasta in Florence…

I toured wine country in the hills of Tuscany…

I hiked the Cinque Terre and lived to tell about it…

I partied and ate tapas in Barcelona…

It was one of the best experiences of my life.

And I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the freedom, flexibility and financial reward of being self-employed.

To be honest, after that trip to Europe…

Get In the Ring: What I Learned About Success from Fight Night in Las Vegas

2015-03-07 18.03.32

Fight night selfies with the fam!

I’m still catching up on my sleep after spending the weekend in Las Vegas for fight night at the MGM Grand!

My family was in town to see my cousin Keith “One Time” Thurman beat Robert Guerrero.

We are so proud of our champ and I was inspired just by being there in person to see what it looks like to go after what you want and WIN, no matter what!

Iron Sharpens Iron: How to Surround Yourself With the Right People

Pictured from left to right: Lisa Sasevich, Marni Battista, Rosetta Thurman, Kerry Ann Rockquemore and Dr. Venus Opal Reese

I had a great time in San Diego last week learning and speaking on a panel at my business mentor Lisa Sasevich’s Event Profit Secrets training.

I looked at this picture and realized that I have literally been surrounding myself with successful women over the past year, including the “Black Women Millionaire” Mentor herself, Dr. Venus Opal Reese!

All of these ladies inspire and motivate me to keep doing the work to empower thousands of women in our Happy Black Woman Community to create their ideal lives and businesses over the next few years.

1505638_10152808537218822_2309359831781070814_nOur community is already growing much faster than I ever imagined, so stick around for the ride! Just in terms of our reach, we’ve gone from ZERO to 13,000 Twitter followers, 20,000 email subscribers, 75,000 pageviews/month and 200,000 Facebook fans. On the revenue side, I’ve gone from replacing my previous salary to surpassing the 6-figure mark with our transformational products and programs.

At this point, we reach a LOT of women all over the world every single day and still, I am constantly looking for additional ways we can spread the word and help even more women claim their freedom through personal development and entrepreneurship.

I remember when Happy Black Woman was just a little itty bitty blog back in 2010 when I had first quit my 9 to 5 nonprofit job and I was writing about the exciting, yet terrifying transition from employee to entrepreneur.

5 years later, here’s what I know for sure:

3 Lessons I Learned From Hiring An Image Consultant

2015-02-17 17.07.00

Me and my image consultant Liana at her Beverly Hills studio

I’m in San Diego right now for another few days of learning, networking and FUN with my business mentor and my fellow mastermind members.

I’m enjoying my last week in California before I head back to Hawaii to soak up the sunshine and not have to wear a jacket anymore.

Last night, me and my girl Kristen had a wonderful dinner at Fleming’s Steakhouse in La Jolla and let me tell you…their lobster bisque is off the chain!

Anyway, today I wanted to share a part of my personal development journey for this year.

I’ve been stretching myself in line with my 2015 theme of “fun, love and adventure.”

I’ve been asking myself how I can show up more fully in my life and in my work – for myself and for my tribe of amazing women?

One of my big investments I wanted to make in myself this year was in the area of self-love – to give myself the gift of looking better and feeling better in my body.

Now that I’m in my 30s, my body is beginning to change and I know my personal style is overdue for a change as well.

Not to mention all the events and travel I have to do for my business, which is requiring me to step it up a bit in the clothing department!

So last month, I hired an image consultant.

How to Write a Love Letter to Your Future Self

“If you aren’t good at loving yourself, you will have a difficult time loving anyone, since you’ll resent the time and energy you give another person that you aren’t even giving to yourself.” — Barbara De Angelis

When you look around your life, you have a lot to be grateful for. But you also likely have some areas that you would like to improve.

By now, you probably know that setting goals is a great way to begin the process of creating your ideal life.

But what can you do to lift yourself up as you go through the stages of pursuing those goals?

Well, one of the most creative ways to manifest your big goals is to write them down in the form of a love letter.

No, not to your romantic partner — to yourself.

Here’s an idea.
